Executive Teams & Professional Learning Communities
I understand that it is imperative to lead with strong sense of purpose, especially in New York City. I am a leader that likes to cultivate talented individuals around a meaningful challenge, modeling for them the means and methods to orient a solutions driven team to a successful resolution to a problem. I accomplish this by always leading by example and following through with under promising and over delivering. I like to include important stakeholders in the process of making important decisions that will impact the school, listening to their opinions and bringing value to their voice. It is therefore my hope to create an executive team that incorporates all types of voices. I also wish to lead with experience on various committees and PLC's that I will be working with in the school community, such as an instructional leadership team (ILT), a Data Management Team (DMT), a PTA, or a Technology Advisory Team (TAT). In all, I hope to help in updating and innovating the school's technology plan to make it the best and most cutting edge plan that will inspire and develop students in all grade levels to meet the needs and challenges of a 21st century market.
RESTORATIVE Justice
In Chicago's Public Schools, I was introduced to the concept of Restorative Justice as a means by which students were included in an extremely personal process to resolve their personal differences with members of the community and de-escalate problems before they erupted into chaotic conflict. Having seen its results and the increase in student's positive attitudes first hand, I plan on implementing a system that incorporates the aims of RJ that helps structure a student centered response to conflict resolution and community justice.
Dasa Training and Planning
I intend to review the school's DASA Action Plan and support the school wide implementation to help establish the proper culture to uplift students & parents who feel voiceless. I can help organize events and seminars that wil touch on topics such as bullying, harassment, and discrimination with sensitivity training and community outreach from local members of the community, government, religious, and business partners. I intend to use the school based DASA team to have an active role in the community to support the necessary changes to school culture and individual attitudes towards the protection of the social emotional well being of all students.
CHAMPS Training and Classroom Management
The overall goal of the CHAMPS classroom management system is to develop an instructional structure in which students are responsible, motivated, and highly engaged in the specific task at hand. More particularly, the teacher's goal is to teach students directly how to be successful in specific class situations. It not only requires thorough planning with buy-in from all stakeholders, but also consistent adjustment from the DASA Team to develop more impact driven behavior management system and a uniform response to student behavior that will increase student academic and social emotional success over the academic year. I feel strongly that if consistently applied, it could help teachers improve on their current behavioral management systems and increase their instructional time to have the most impact on student achievement.
Choice Theory
I am a supporter of Dr. Glasser's ideas of Choice Theory. I would love to see this being adopted into classrooms I observe. I believe in providing all students with multiple choices in their learning, especially in how to they are to present, discuss, and reflect on what they are learning. The most important part of this theory is providing students with a consistent outlet of expression that is natural, authentic, and most effective to develop a motivated and intrinsic learner. I want to observe students with different activities to show off their understanding of complex thoughts and concepts as well as learn from "their" journey.
Diverse Student Populations
The focus on diverse learning communities in the school is critical for the overall success of the school community. All students deserve a chance to succeed and must be motivated to take their learning to the next level. To foster these traits in the school communities, I plan to allow for stakeholders to gain more understanding of current practices that allow for students to not only achieve better results in their courses but to also increase their overall attitude towards coming to school and have fun learning.
